Who is Jasmine?

Jasmine Clist is a third year student studying at the Arts university of Plymouth. As a photographer born in South Wales, but currently based in Plymouth, she positions herself at the intersection of fashion, documentary, and music photography. Her work and Projects are rooted in the belief that imagery should not be based around ‘Looking good’, but to tell a narrative, evoke emotions, and capture the essence of the moment. Whether it’s a fleeting expression, raw, or a subtle detail in a styled fashion shoot.

Her creative Journey began with a fascination with people and locations, First beginning with photographing Animals, family and friends on my first Nikon Camera. How her models moved, dressed, performed and expressed themselves through their confidence, often drawing inspiration from street culture and natural textures found within my surroundings in South Wales. Since then, her fascination has since evolved into a deep, thoughtful photographic practice. She has since developed a unique visual language that bridges high-concept editorial aesthetics with authentic, documentary realism.

Fashion Photography allows her to play with aesthetics, identity and self-expression. She enjoys crafting shoots that are not just about clothing, but specifically centred around attitudes, moods and hidden messages. Whether she is working in a studio or out in a gritty urban setting, she focuses herself on bringing out personality and presence within every subject of my shoots.

In contrast, her documentary work is more observational, rooted in quiet curiosity and care. She’s developed projects that explore real people and real stories. An example of this is her photographic journey through the condition of Cystic Fibrosis. She documented her models who have had this condition all of their lives, and how they navigate their daily life, using candid moments and natural/studio lighting through a journalistic eye. Her approach these shoots with a sense of responsibility, especially within sensitive environments. That specific project has taught her the value of patience, respect, sensitivity and the power of well-timed frames.

While fashion and documentary are my core areas, her also begun to explore music photography,  especially within the local devon/welsh scene. Capturing live energy, raw emotions, and behind-the-scenes moments at gigs and rehearsals has added a new dynamic within her work. There's something compelling about freezing a chaotic, loud moment into a single image that tells a story, and she is excited to continue developing that side of her portfolio.

What mixes her work together,  whether it’s fashion, documentary or music, is a commitment to visual storytelling. She’s not just interested in making pretty pictures, but she wants to create work that feels alive, that connects with people and which reflects both the subject’s world and my own artistic perspectives. Living in South Wales, She is inspired by various cultures, nature, and creativity that centred around me.

As she continue to grow and collaborate, she is currently looking to work alongside creatives, brands, publications and communities who value imagery that is honest, powerful and full of energy.
